Sometimes when it comes to starting an online business all it takes is utilizing your existing skill sets.

2. Conduct a market research.

You do not have to hire an actual research firm, you can do this on your own although in a bit more limited way. This is because most first time businessmen fail as they do not know anything about the market they are trying to get into. Some of the questions that you need to answer through research are: How big is the market? What products or services do the market need? Where are my target customers? How much capital do I need?

3. Perform search engine optimization (SEO) and also search engine marketing (SEM).

At first glance these two may look similar, however they are really different. With SEO you are optimizing your website so that it will be visible in the search engines. You are also aiming to rank as high as possible with the keywords of your choice. This in turn will bring in the organic or natural traffic. With SEM you are marketing your website throughout the web. You are also aiming to bring in targeted traffic. So while the goals are the same, the processes or approaches are different.
